Another Blog......

....that sacrificed itself so that FaceBook could survive!  We're all still here, still doing pretty much the same old thing!

The kids are good, enjoying their Christmas break.  They get just over two weeks off, I think they go back to school on January 3.  Gabi is managing the HS girls' basketball team again this year, and Meg is actually playing on the JV squad!  She's never played basketball before, but seems to be enjoying it (I think she likes the shoes more than anything else!).  They're both doing well in school, though Gabrielle's got a major case of Senior-itis and is counting the days until graduation.

Ethan played soccer in the Fall, is still enjoying 1st grade and seems to have developed an affection for Barbies (which he tries desperately to hide and will deny to his death if confronted).  I tell him, every chance I get, that all kids are allowed to play with any toys they want, that there are no "boy" toys or "girl" toys, they're all just "toys" and regale him with tales of my Hot Wheels collection and favorite Star Wars action figures that I had as a little girl.  He's not at all convinced, and I'm sure he would be teased mercilessly at school if anyone found out.  I made the mistake of sending Girl Scout cookies in his lunch one day, and some little shit laughed at him for it!  Kids can be such jerks!

Work is good, pretty busy leading up to the holidays, when lots of the military folks take long vacations, so I was trying to cram in as much work as possible that required any input from any of them before they left.  I'm actively searching for another job.  My current job is scheduled to end in September 2012, and though there is the possibility of a one-year extension, I don't want to be in the same place I was a year ago and be completely screwed if it doesn't happen.  I'd really, really love to go to Korea next, but honestly, I'll take anything, anywhere.

We're heading to Guam for 5 days next month.  It's already so cold here, I can't wait for some sunshine and beach lounging!  Meg went to spend Thanksgiving with her dad, so she's happy to be going back again so soon.

Think that's pretty much it for us!  Nothing very exciting or blog worthy!  I guess that should be a good thing, considering how bad things were for me this time last year!  Wishing everyone (if there's even anyone left) a happy, healthy new year!!!

Guess that means I have to get to you before September then!! I'm thinking April sounds like a nice time to drink and go BBQ shopping sans children - mine that is.

I'm so glad you updated. I miss your blog posts/updates.

The girls seem to be doing wonderful. And you're exactly right, toys are just toys. Fwiw, even though I had barbies and an easy bake oven, and all those types of toys, I also asked one year for a remote control race car track and I got one. I loved it and played and raced around with it, I'm glad my parents bought it for me.

And little boys can't bring Girl Scout cookies to school. OMG, what will kids think of next! What sort of horrible kid was that who made fun of Ethan for that. @_@ Girl Scout cookies are absolutely delicious. Heck, if I were at the same school, I'd be sending Noah with them too. So he'd be in good company. Gee, I had no idea you had to be a female to enjoy Girl Scout cookies. What a kid. I say cookies and food, anyone can have them.

And as for toys. Childhood is the perfect time to explore all toys. Not just gender specifc toys. And there was only 1 girl my age on my street growing up but a few boys, I played football with them on weekends, growing up. Also, I remember when Branden was about 3, he wanted some play food at Toys R Us, Noboru said, but it's in the girl aisle. I said, so what, he made me pretend curry, pretend hamburg, pretend pancakes. And it was good for him.

Also wanted to say enjoy your trip to Guam! You're gonna have the best time there. This isn't your first time. So have fun, get some sun, enjoy that gorgeous beach and all that yummy food. Right on!

Also, you'd like to move to Korea. I went to Korea once Noah was a newborn, maybe 6 months? Branden was 3 or so. We only stayed 2 short nights but we LOVED it! It's so much more American then Japan. That sounds odd, I say that but what I mean is. The Mc D's menu is the same as the US, the Burger King menu is the same as the US. The Pizza Hut menu is the same as the US, breadstick, wings, etc. No corn nori pizza there. The Subway is the same as the US menu, it hasn't been changed like how it has in Japan they have meatball subs in Korea, Branden had one... but not here in Japan, and they also have Italian BMT again what I mean is...the menu has not changed how the menus often changed here in Japan. So it's very American friendly that way. Also they drive on the right side of the road too, which is wonderful for us too. I don't even wanna tell you how many times I switched on my windshield wiper blades in Guam this last time while driving. @_@ Trying to turn the signal lights on instead. Also the people are warm talkative. They have Krispy Kreme. You would love Korea! Also the Korean food is delicious, who doesn't love good BBQ. We ate a lot at food stalls along the roads and enjoyed a lot of it.

Anyway, I'm sorry I wrote too much. : )

Happy New Year, Bryn and her beautiful wonderful awesome family!!!!
