I'm pretty proud of myself

This is day 3 of no caffeine for me. I love soda, and easily drink 3 - 4 20 oz bottles per day. Very unhealthy, not to mention devastating to any weight loss efforts I might be tempted to make.
>
I haven't cut out soda all together, I just don't have the discipline or will power for that, but I've switched to caffeine-free Coke and Pepsi, and have cut my intake by more than half, I'm down to 2 (or less) 12 oz cans per day. I'm not having any mental or emotional withdrawal symptoms, just massive headaches, but they're tamed with medication, so no big deal.
>
This is also day 3 of drinking at least 40 oz of water per day. A much bigger deal than the soda, because I HATE drinking water, normally I can't even manage to choke down 40 oz per YEAR, much less per day!! That is not an exaggeration! And yes, I know that 40 oz is only half the recommended daily amount, but I'm a work in progress.

So, we'll see how long I can stick it out. I'm not getting any younger, and it's way past the time that I need to start taking my health more seriously (and I could also stand to lose quite a bit of weight, but I need to take this in baby steps!)

Go you!

I also find it difficult to drink water- especially in winter. I have been having boiling water with a splash of apple juice and find that helps the water go down. The headaches thing is pretty scary- shows how much it was effecting your body, hey?

I am trying to be healthier, too. Figure it's never too late to start. Keep up the good work!

Yeah, I wouldn't have ever said I was addicted, because I could stop drinking soda whenever I want (isn't that what every addict says? LOL) so the headaches surprised me. I did some research and it's the most common side effect. I felt much better through today, and I slept like a rock last night, something I haven't done in YEARS! I guess the caffeine was affecting me more than I thought!

Does your tap water taste bad? Ours has a really mineral-y taste, O says it's fine, but since I hate it to begin with, anything other than flavor-less is bad! I buy the little Crystal Lite powder packs, but only use a tiny sprinkle to give a smidge of flavor.

Our tap water is spring water so pretty tasty. I have no excuse for not drinking it!

Glad to hear the withdrawals are diminishing and more and better sleep is always a bonus!

Hawaii tap water is among the sweetest in the world. And no need to be boiled first.

Love iced coffee. I usually drink 4 glasses a day. But no headaches if I skip a day.

Good for you! And I totally understand because I hate water too! Which is weird because swimming in water, I love. But drinking water? I'd prefer drink anything else on the planet if given the choice! : )

The water in Osaka where his mom lives, I tasted it once, blech! Tasted horrible. Almost as bad at the tap water from California, lol! Denver water is delicious though. I think because of the Osaka bad water I have had, I have never drank our water here. Hmm. When I drink it, I buy bottled water.

Now, I drink Jasmine tea. It has absolutely no sugar. Not sure about caffeine, hmm. Wlll have to check on that part. But I drink it in mass quantities and I feel healthier knowing it's healthier then a sugary drink. The taste is really mild and good.

Oolong tea I find tastes like an old dirty sock. LOL, not that I've tried an old dirty sock, but I imagine it tastes sorta like that. That's why I stick with the Jasmine tea, it's easier on my strong American taste buds. He he he. : )

Baby steps is good. I can stand to lose some pounds myself too. I'm trying, trying to eat smaller portions and walk more and stuff too. But I still enjoy my nightly popcorn or senbei while watching TV. Like you said...baby steps. :D

Gigi - I can't wait to taste Hawaii water LOL I don't care for iced coffee, but I love frappucinos!

Gina - I don't like oolong tea either, actually, I don't like any tea, and matcha is absolutely disgusting to me! I've tried to understand it's enormous popularity here, but I'm totally baffled, it's so gross! (No offense to the matcha-lovers! I know there are lots of you and I'll always have a cup waiting if you drop by!)

Good morning, OMG! I am so glad you said that! I dislike matcha too, it is so yuck. I see people dive into the matcha icecream or matcha drinks and everything. No thanks! I think we just have very American taste buds, you and I! Ha ha ha. I'm so glad you are in Japan! : )

LOL Gina, I'm glad I'm here too!!! I was really surprised that Krispy Kreme didn't have matcha donuts! :)
