As most of you already know, last Monday Mt. Asama erupted. Asama is located about 65 miles west of us and is one of Japan's most active volcanos. Thanks to perfect weather conditions and dead-on winds, we got quite an accumulation of volcanic ash in our area, so much that schools on base were closed on Monday due to health concerns for the kids. It wasn't that bad, except maybe for kids w/ asthma. Still, totally wild!!! Earthquakes are really normal here, we have them nearly monthly, but I never expected a volcano eruption! I scooped up a little pile into a ziplock baggie to keep as a souvenir. Check out
this video of the eruption.

This is so cool to me! I've heard of snow days but NEVER heard of a volcano days! *wink, wink* Ha ha ha. The ash on O's car did look sorta like snow, huh. Sorta like the start of flurries. Wild that it really was ash!
Even a full week later, I'm still marvelling at it! Definitely something we'll never forget!
