Worn out in time-out

Ethan's time-out spot is on the stairs. He doesn't spend a lot of time there because he's a pretty good boy and doesn't get in trouble very often. But when he does get sentenced, his stubborn streak rears its ugly head and he refuses to leave time-out when I tell him he can get up. He'll leave time-out when he is ready, and not one minute sooner! More often than not, this is the end result:
